APPRENTICE - Early Years Assistant

Job Introduction

St John the Baptist Church of England Primary School is looking to appoint an Apprentice Early Years Assistant to support pupils in our Year R class. Some of the pupils may have SEND or medical needs.   

 The post will be part time from 8.40am – 3.10pm, on a 39-week contract.

 We require an Early Years Apprentice to work with our youngest children as they start their school life. Children learn through a rich variety of play based learning, and we are looking for an apprentice with a passion to nurture a love of learning and play. The role includes working with the whole class and outdoor area alongside the teacher and SENDCo and also supporting small groups of children independently. 

 We have an experienced and very supportive Early Years team who are a part of the whole school community and we are in a position to offer the training opportunity of Level 3 apprenticeships. 

 Hours include time for training and a tutor visits you in the workplace to support with training and tasks. 

 Your duties and responsibilities will include:

  •  Ensure that you adhere to the child protection, safeguarding, health & safety and equal opportunities policies and any other policies for staff of the school
  • Helping prepare the provision, setting out resources, replenishing stationery etc.
  • Welcome parents and children warmly
  • Supervise children’s learning and play under the direction of the class teacher
  • Prepare food for the children’s snack station in class
  • Helping to reset the provision at the end of each session
  • Maintaining high levels of hygiene by carrying out simple ongoing cleaning e.g. wiping tables
  • Participate in both indoor and outdoor learning and play activities
  • Modelling good quality use of language and conversation at all times for the children
  • Liaise with the class teacher and playworkers on any issues of health & safety and report any child protection concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Participate in team planning meetings 
  • Be a positive and problem solving team member
  • Ensure you live by the school values of courage, compassion and creativity and set an example to the children in how you do this with them and your colleagues
  • Complete tasks set by tutor to deadlines set
  • Join in with school life as a member of the whole staff team
