Are you ready for the next step in your leadership journey?

Do you have a strong grounding in curriculum, assessment and pedagogy, and feel excited by the opportunity to make a meaningful difference across two schools?

We are delighted to advertise the post of Assistant Headteacher (Teaching & Learning – curriculum strategic leader, assessment, oracy, coaching/mentoring) to join and help lead our popular, friendly and nurturing Federation. This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious leader with vision, passion and the drive to shape teaching and learning across both our Infant and Junior schools.

As a Federation, we are deeply committed to instilling a love of learning—for pupils and for staff—and our vision and values of Love, Respect and Aspire sit at the heart of everything we do. We offer children consistently challenging yet supportive learning experiences through a broad, balanced and creative curriculum. Our Bursledon Teaching Sequence underpins our pedagogical approach, and we are proud to be developing and embedding a clear, coherent strategy for high-quality Oracy across the schools. We value thoughtful risk-taking, reflection and building strong learning behaviours where children feel safe to learn from their mistakes.

We celebrate progress, achievement and effort for all members of our school community, and we place strong emphasis on working collaboratively with families and the wider community to ensure learning is meaningful beyond the school day.

Both schools are rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted with some ‘Outstanding’ features, alongside an ‘Excellent’ SIAMS inspection in the Infants within the last two years. We are in a strong phase of development; our current Federation Improvement Plan is outward-facing, dynamic and exciting—and our end-of-year outcomes are positive and improving. We look to be inspected in the Infants in July and Juniors November 2026 – both looking for strong outcomes.

We have much to offer, including:

  • Leadership in Oracy and the Bursledon Teaching Sequence: A strategic role driving high-quality teaching across the Federation.
  • A personalised, ambitious CPD programme that supports your development and challenges you to grow focusing on you as a leader.
  • Exceptional leadership coaching and mentoring, including programmes designed for those aspiring to become a Head of School or Headteacher in the future – including external coaching and training as well as NPQH should you be interested.
  • Education Mutual, offering comprehensive physical and mental health provision including private medical treatment, counselling, physiotherapy and annual health checks.
  • Protected leadership time and regular opportunities for strategic contribution.
  • A strong and supportive Governing Body.
  • A commitment to staff wellbeing, including free tea/coffee/hot chocolate and half-termly social events for those who enjoy connecting beyond the school day.

We truly value our staff, and this role offers a unique opportunity to influence practice, develop others, and craft a clear pathway towards future headship.
