Traditionally, the Caretaker opens and closes the school each day and so there is a requirement to be on site twice per school day. However, the working hours and school holiday hours are open for discussion.

The role requires someone with flexibility, good organisational skills and initiative, who is able to work as part of a team. We are looking for someone with good practical skills and a strong awareness of safe working practices. You will need to be able to work independently, as well as communicate effectively with members of the school community, and take responsibility for the school site, keeping the building safe, secure and clean. You must be willing to attend training and develop professional skills. Ideally, you will also have a full, clean driving licence. The role includes the following;

We are looking for someone to:

  • Work to ensure Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and to report any concerns in accordance with the School’s Safeguarding Policy

  • Support the safe and efficient running of the school
  • Be responsible for site security, including opening and closing of the school daily during term-time, as well as outside of normal school hours for school events if required
  • Act as the principal key holder, being the first point of contact for our keyholding and alarm response service provider, in the event of site-related emergencies
  • Complete regular checking and record keeping in relation to Health and Safety procedures, including fire safety, risk assessment, COSHH, legionella etc.
  • Undertake general DIY and repairs to the school, property and premises, reporting to the school office any tasks that need the support of HCC contractors
  • Liaise with other HCC departments and contractors to support programmes of planned, reactive and preventative maintenance
  • Oversee the annual programme of cleaning and general maintenance, specifically key holiday tasks
  • Monitor and ensure the highest standards of cleanliness throughout the school, undertaking some cleaning tasks as required and liaising with and supervising the school cleaner
  • Monitor cleaning stock and ordering supplies in conjunction with the school cleaner

We are highly committed to our staff and can offer you:

  • A positive, friendly, and supportive team of colleagues within a happy and caring school that has the well-being of every child at its centre
  • Role specific training
  • Opportunities for personal development
