About the Role
Are you enthusiastic, friendly, and self-motivated? Emsworth Primary School is looking for a practical and proactive Caretaker to play a vital role in keeping our school safe, secure, and running smoothly.
Our current Site Manager is reducing their hours, allowing us to offer fantastic flexibility. We can accommodate anywhere between 16 and 30 hours per week, depending on your preference. Ideally, the role will be worked in 8-hour days (either as a split shift or with a flexible start time), across 2 to 4 days per week. On your working days a 6:15 PM lock-up is required to support our lettings, such as After School Club.
We are currently in an exciting phase of developing our Forest School and substantial school grounds so this is the ideal time to get stuck in!
There are also opportunities for overtime during special school events, such as our popular summer fete and during parents’ evenings.
This role is offered on a 52 week a year, permanent contract. This enables the Caretaker to carry out essential maintenance and manage contractors who are on site during the school holiday periods and to take some much needed time off during the school term! Hampshire County Council offers 24 days (pro-rated) of annual leave per year, rising to 27 days (pro-rated) after 5 years’ service.
Key Responsibilities
- Site Security & Safety: Ensure the school grounds and buildings are secure, including handling the daily 6:15 PM lock-up and managing regular external lettings.
- DIY & Maintenance: Use your practical skills to carry out small DIY jobs and general maintenance tasks around the school.
- Team Leadership: Manage and support our fantastic in-house cleaning staff, and step in to help with cleaning duties when cover is needed.
- Operational Support: Contribute to the daily smooth running of the school, working effectively both independently and as part of a team.
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will:
- Show great initiative, be proactive, and possess excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- Be a true team player who wants to become an active part of our school community.
- Demonstrate a flexible approach to support the changing needs of the school.
- Take pride in helping maintain our site, grounds, and buildings to the highest possible standard.
