Job Introduction

We are a small school with big opportunities!

Icknield is an Outstanding special school for pupils with severe learning difficulties aged 3-19 years. However, the true beauty of our school is that we are a small site and everyone here is part of the close knit ‘Icknield Family’. We all know all of our children and young people, each other and every individual in our family is valued and cared for.

Our school’s strap line is ‘Your journey matters’ and that is true for both pupils and staff. 

We are looking to recruit a reliable and hardworking person, with a range of practical skills, to join our school site team, working under the direction of our site manager. The successful candidate will take pride in the school and ensure that the environment is safe, clean, tidy and attractive for children, staff and families.

We are looking for someone who:

·         is positive and welcoming 

·         has an ability to use their own initiative and has practical skills  

·         can be responsible for the daily closing of the school site

·         can provide a caretaking service, undertaking minor repairs, maintenance and decoration to meet the needs of the school 

·         can take responsibility for security 

·         can carry out required Health & Safety checks/procedures 

·         can arrange & supervise external contractors on-site (when needed) 

·         makes sure that our school site provides a safe, well maintained and high-quality learning environment for our children

·         ensures that the security and general appearance of our buildings and grounds is maintained to a high standard

·         can work collaboratively with the site manager

·         can undertake preventative minor maintenance & repairs, including small painting & decorating jobs

·         can monitor cleaning stock and submit reorder requests

The ideal candidate will be:

·         enthusiastic with good practical and DIY skills

·         preferably experienced in a similar role/trade and/or have relevant qualifications, however this is not essential

·         hard working, reliable and flexible

·         organised and able to work independently as well as part of a wider team

·         able to use own initiative and to prioritise workloads

·         pro-active and a good communicator

·         committed to taking a pride in their work

·         willing to undertake required training and open to new ideas

·         have an understanding of, and be committed to the safeguarding of pupils

For the right candidate there may be additional hours available in the school day to take on other responsibilities, e.g. classroom support, driving, or lunchtime supervision. These options would be discussed at the interview stage.
