Job Introduction
Cover Supervisor Gosport
It would be remiss to not recognise that ‘cover lessons’ stereotypically have a bad reputation – never mind when you mix that in with a stereotypical view of a Pupil Referral Unit!
However, please don’t allow either of these stereotypes to deter you from an amazing opportunity to join our fantastic team and work with our pupils! We are biased, but we think this is one of the most fulfilling jobs in education at the moment!
The Key Education Centres provide alternative provisions for pupils aged 11—16 who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream schools alongside pupils who are referred to us for medical reasons/emotional vulnerability. Our cohort is a dynamic and diverse group of young people who respond really well to the additional support that we are able to provide through smaller classes and our relational approach which is rooted in Attachment and Trauma informed practice. We pride ourselves on providing experiences beyond those of the traditional curriculum alongside providing them with the skills needed to succeed in life beyond The Key.
We are looking to appoint a Cover Supervisor who will be responsible for delivering pre-planned lessons in the absence of the class teacher. We are hoping to appoint a colleague who has an interest in immersing themselves in the wider work of the school as there are opportunities to support pupil’s academic and social/emotional needs through 1:1 or small group work, alongside the opportunity to take a pastoral role as part of our tutor team. With a dedicated team of staff, absence for staff illness isn't the primary need in this role; instead, we want to be able to build capacity for staff to undertake essential work with pupils that we don’t always have the time to do! The cover supervisor will become an integral part of the wider team and our behaviour management systems will always ensure they are supported during cover lessons if needed.
The post holder will be based at our Gosport site as part of our teaching and learning team. When lesson cover is not required, the successful applicant will be required to engage in a range of tasks that support the wider work of the school.
We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague who has a genuine interest in supporting our pupils and improving their life chances. This post is for a one-year fixed term contract, with a strong possibility that this contract would be extended at the end of the fixed term period.
CVs will not be accepted. Closing date 28th April 12:00pm
Visits to The Centre are welcomed.
