HLTA/Cover Supervisor


Job/Person Summary

We are seeking to appoint a friendly, caring, enthusiastic and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant or Cover Supervisor to deliver whole class lessons set by the class teacher.   The main purpose of this role will be to provide cover in the event of planned absence or in the event of staff sickness.  If this is not required, you will also be delivering interventions to small group of children.


There can be some flexibility over days/hours to be worked and a job share will also be considered.


Applicants need to be:

  • Confident, reliable and adaptable and have experience of working with children aged 4-7 years
  • Be confident leading whole class lessons
  • Be able to work as part of a team, learning with and from other colleagues
  • Have excellent communication skills and act on own initiative at times 
  • Have a child-centred approach
  • Be able to build relationships with all children 
  • Have the ability to work in an Early Years or Key Stage 1 
  • Have the ability to work under pressure and to a timetable
  • Have the ability to keep pupils motivated and engaged
  • Have a calm but firm approach
  • Be able to adapt and think on your feet
  • Be flexible and willing to learn
  • Be able to attune to a child’s emotional needs
  • Be able to work independently and on your own initiative
  • Have excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • demonstrate excellent behaviour management skills
  • understand confidentiality and safeguarding procedures

  • Our support staff work in close partnership with class teachers and our Inclusion Leader (SENDCo) to promote learning for all children. Experience of undertaking whole class teaching and learning in the absence of the class teacher would be of benefit
  • The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8.30am to 3.30pm term-time only

Applicants should have:

  • At least 2 years relevant experience of working in a teaching and learning environment
  • HLTA Status or Level 3 or equivalent in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
  • English and Maths to GCSE Grade C
