Are you a skilled and caring Learning Support Assistant who is passionate about making a real difference in the early years? We would love you to join our welcoming and friendly school, where strong academic expectations sit alongside a genuine commitment to nurturing every child as an individual.

At St John’s Gosport C of E Primary School, we believe every child deserves to thrive. Guided by our core values of Love, Courage and Respect, we aim to inspire high aspirations while providing a supportive and inclusive environment. If these values reflect your own, we would be delighted to hear from you.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a proactive, calm and capable Learning Support Assistant to join our supportive EYFS team. This is a full-time, term-time position (Grade B, pro-rata salary based on experience and qualifications).

In this role, you will play an important part in supporting children’s early development and wellbeing by:

  • Supporting Early Learning: Delivering focused support to individuals and small groups, helping children engage with the Prime and Specific areas of learning through purposeful play.
  • Enhancing Provision: Working closely with the EYFS lead to develop children’s academic and social skills, and helping to prepare and adapt high-quality resources for continuous provision.
  • Championing Inclusion and Neurodiversity: Using personalised strategies—such as sensory breaks and visual timetables and personal care—to support individual needs and remove barriers to learning.
  • Promoting Wellbeing: Supporting pupils’ social and emotional development both in the classroom and during outdoor learning opportunities.
  • Encouraging Independence: Helping children build confidence by exploring independently, following simple instructions, and expressing their ideas and discoveries.
  • Observing and Assessing Progress: Keeping accurate, detailed records of children’s development and communicating effectively with colleagues and parents.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking someone with a genuine passion for inclusive education and a strong understanding of early childhood development.

Essential skills and qualities include:

  • A positive, calm approach, with effective and age-appropriate behaviour management strategies
  • Strong knowledge of the EYFS Statutory Framework and Development Matters
  • A keen interest in and commitment to supporting neurodiverse learners
  • Empathy, flexibility and initiative, with an understanding of the importance of social and emotional development
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a supportive team and build positive relationships
  • Relevant qualifications, ideally NVQ Level 2 or equivalent
  • A growth mindset, with enthusiasm and willingness to learn and develop professionally

Join St John’s Gosport C of E Primary School

If you are ready to bring Love, Courage and Respect into your daily work, and are excited about helping young children reach their full potential from the very start of their school journey, we would love to hear from you.
