Early Years Teacher

Are you passionate about working with young children and making a difference to their development and education? At Merton Infant School we are looking for an Early Years Teacher to join our Pre-School which was graded good as part of our Early Years Provision in our recent OFSTED July 2025.

We believe that “Aiming High, Achieving Together” is how children learn best.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning, developing, and implementing play-based activities and learning experiences that align with the EYFS framework
  • Monitoring progress, recording observations and supporting children's social, emotional, and intellectual development
  • Making accurate and effective assessments which reflect the needs and stages of each child
  • Working collaboratively with the Pre-School Manager, Early Years Assistants and the School Leadership Team
  • Ensuring the indoor and outdoor environments are consistently stimulating and inspiring for the children
  • Communicating and consulting with parents / carers and with outside agencies, as necessary, about children’s progress and attainment.

Skills

You will need to have:

  • ·An understanding of how children from 0 to 5 years old learn and what encourages their development
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Good organisational skills to plan the day and respond to the different needs of the children you teach
  • The ability to inspire and enthuse young children
  • Resourcefulness, patience and a caring nature
  • Ability to work independently with children, as well as being able to work in the wider school team
  • A sense of humour
  • Attention to detail for carrying out observations and reporting back to parents /carers and other professionals.

What we’re looking for

  • Hold either Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS) or a full and relevant Level 6 Early Years Qualification
  •  Passion for making learning fun and engaging for each child
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection
  • Ability to develop trust and strong working partnerships with both colleagues and parents/ carers
