Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) – Alderwood Senior School

 

30 hours per week. Monday to Friday 8.30am – 3pm. Term time plus one week

 

Alderwood School is seeking to appoint a compassionate, skilled and highly motivated Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) to join our dedicated Inclusion Team. We are a welcoming and inclusive school committed to ensuring every child is given every opportunity to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. 

 

The successful candidate will work closely with our SEND team, class teachers and families to provide targeted emotional literacy interventions and support for children experiencing emotional, social or behavioural challenges. The role will include supporting individual pupils and groups, monitoring progress, liaising with external agencies where appropriate and helping children develop confidence, resilience and positive relationships.

 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Support improvements in wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management within Sutherland Hall School
  • Work with members of the education team to support young people's personal and academic development by removing barriers to learning
  • Promote positive learning behaviours among young people
  • Deliver enrichment activities
  • Support pupils during lessons with their academic understanding and pastoral, emotional or behavioural needs
  • Respond to immediate concerns and clarify the situation
  • Create and collate information relating to lessons and interventions delivered
  • Assist in preparing information for meetings concerning pupils
  • Act as an advocate for the ethos of Sutherland Hall School
  • Lead pastoral interventions
  • Develop the role of pupil voice and liaise with the Senior Leadership Team regarding the pupil council
  • Develop relationships with parents and carers, taking an active role in transitions and consultation visits
  • Lead ELSA sessions and complete training with the local authority

 

Requirements

  • Have a strong basic education, with a minimum of GCSE grade 4/C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills
  • Have previous experience in a similar role, such as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant or LSA
  • Experience of behaviour management and techniques
  • Be committed to professional development and willing to learn

 

Salary details:

HCC Grade D Actual:  £19,760 - £22,027 (pay rise pending) FTE:  £27,780 - £30,564 (pay rise pending)
