Family Support Worker Location: Lanterns Maintained Nursery School, Winchester

Hours: 15 hours per week, term time only (flexible within 9am–2:30pm, 3 days a week). Occasional evenings and/or weekends required for workshops or special events.

Salary: £32,149 - £35,241 Full Time Equivalent (Actual annual salary £11,148 - £12,220)

The Role We are looking for a compassionate and proactive Family Support Worker to join our dedicated team. This rewarding role involves working closely with families to offer guidance, provide practical support, and foster strong relationships that enhance the well-being of children and families. You will also act as the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) for the nursery school, ensuring the safety and welfare of all children in our care.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Supporting families with tailored advice and guidance, including home visits and assistance with applications such as housing, DLA, and job forms.
  • Organising parent workshops and coffee mornings to build community and provide practical insights into parenting and child development.
  • Acting as a liaison between families and external agencies to ensure coordinated support, including attending and organising multi-agency meetings.
  • Signposting families to appropriate services and resources, developing links with the local community.
  • Coordinating initiatives such as pop up swap shop and family support weeks to promote sustainability and accessibility for families.
  • Monitoring and responding to safeguarding concerns as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (training provided).

What We Are Looking For:

  • Experience working with vulnerable families, ideally in early years, nursery, or primary school settings.
  • Strong safeguarding knowledge and a proactive approach to promoting child welfare.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with families and professionals.
  • A caring, empathetic, and non-judgmental attitude combined with strong organisational abilities.
  • Confidence in running workshops and facilitating group discussions.
