Job Introduction
This post affords the successful candidate the opportunity to work in the only special school federation in Hampshire and to join our very experienced and committed federation staff team. Our two schools, situated next door to each other, cater for the full age range and a wide breadth of needs, including moderate, severe and profound learning difficulties.
Our strapline is ‘a family of learning’ and we are committed as a community to have our wonderful pupils and students at the heart of our federation. We offer a fun, stimulating and creative environment in which all individuals are valued for their contribution, and we strive for our pupils and students to be as independent as they can be.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Site Assistant to join our site team. The post holder will work closely with the Federation Site Manager to manage our site grounds and buildings to the highest possible standard.
This post carries the option of the successful candidate undertaking an apprenticeship, which is a valuable way to develop your career. As an apprentice, you will receive practical and professional training right from start, working alongside experienced colleagues who will supervise your development and progress. You will be working towards a Level 2 Facilities Services Operative Apprenticeship in conjunction with an approved training provider.
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, friendly, reliable and resourceful individual with a positive, ‘can do’ attitude, who can take responsibility for maintaining a clean and safe site.

- will show initiative, be proactive, have good organisational and time management skills;
- is able to follow systems and school policies consistently to ensure the safeguarding and safety of our pupils;
- is able to use effective communication skills with staff, pupils, visitors, parents/carers, governors and external contractors;
- has a calm and consistent approach; and
- has a sympathetic understanding of our pupils’ needs.
Previous experience of working in schools would be beneficial but not essential. This role would suit someone who enjoys working outside and with good DIY skills in order to undertake a range of repairs, maintenance and decorating. Full training will be received through the Hampshire County Council Caretakers’ Induction Programme alongside the apprenticeship if this is chosen.
