HLTA - Higher Level Teaching Assistant for PPA Cover

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic professional who is focusing on work at Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HTLA) level to join our teaching and learning team at Ludlow Junior School.

You will be responsible for the independent teaching, learning and management of whole class groups – moving throughout the school to cover classes whilst the teacher is released for PPA. Ideally we are looking for someone with a specific subject or curriculum specialism, for example, art, music or MfL, geography, history etc.

Within your remit, we expect you to teach whole classes of children, using the planning provided by the class teacher. You’ll also liaise with the class teacher around individual children, the progress the children made and any next steps needed; as well as assessing and evaluating pupil outcomes – including live marking within lessons.

The role would suit someone who has had experience of covering whole classes or working with larger groups of children independently. We do not expect you to be a qualified teacher; however, you need to have a strong affinity with children and the ability to liaise with class teachers and our Senior Leadership Team.

You could work on all aspects across our curriculum, depending on the cover required, and this may also include supporting timetable variations where additional play times or session changes have been built in.

At the end of the school day you would conduct the handover of pupils to parents and carers – providing feedback as required. You also have a timeslot for teacher feedback.

We are a school which is dedicated to on-going professional development and we would be expecting to coach you to develop all aspects of your teaching. You would work alongside our team leaders, teachers and report to our Deputy Headteachers.

Visits to our school are welcomed - if you would like to book a tour of the school please contact recruitment@ludlowjunior.org.uk

Interviews will take place on Wednesday 25th June 2025 and you should be prepared to be available for the whole day.
