Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Job/Person Summary

We have a rare opportunity to join our very friendly team as an HLTA working across all year groups from Pre-School to Year 6. The applicant should be an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant, or an experienced LSA/TA who is willing to undertake the HLTA qualification. 

The successful candidates will: 

  • have experience of supporting children with their learning and development
  • have experience of supporting children with interaction and communication needs
  • have excellent communication skills, relating well to children, colleagues and parents
  • work well as part of a team
  • be prepared and confident in covering for PPA across the whole school, including our Pre-School
  • be flexible in covering classes as this may be requested last minute due to staff absence etc.
  • be able to plan appropriate support for individual children’s needs
  • be able to work independently, proactively, and with initiative 
  • be confident in their understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding procedures

Role / responsibilities, include:

  1. Undertake whole-class supervision in the absence of the class teacher as required, according to the needs of the school.
  2. Use specialist skills to support pupils 
  3. Working unsupervised in terms of PPA cover and complete any reasonable requests of teaching staff / SLT
  4. Assist the teacher to create an appropriate learning environment 
  5. Work with the teacher in lesson planning, adjusting plans and pupil personalised provision
  6. Evaluate and record pupils’ responses to activities through planned observation(s)
  7. At whole class level, contribute to and implement curriculum programmes
  8. Whilst working under the general direction of the teacher, work unsupervised and without the close presence of the teacher, implementing lesson plans, deal with pupil behaviour and make judgments about pupil progress/pupil needs without reference to the teacher.
  9. Maintain an awareness of school, national and statutory policies and requirements and apply these in the workplace.
