Vacancy – 1:1 Learning Support Assistant Fixed Term 1 Year

We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate and resilient 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to support a pupil with complex needs in EYFS. This role is integral to enabling the child to access learning, develop communication and interaction skills, regulate emotions and thrive in our setting.

You will play a vital role in supporting a child who has a range of needs including Autism Spectrum Condition, Global Developmental Delay, sensory processing differences and physical needs affecting balance and coordination.

Location: St Columba C of E Primary School, Fareham
Contract: Fixed-term initially for 1 year (linked to specific pupil funding)
Hours: 8:30am–3:15pm, term time only 39 weeks plus holiday allowance, 31.25 hours per week, Mon to Friday, 6 hrs 15 mins per day 30 Minute unpaid break.
Start date: 1st September 2026
Salary: Grade B FTE £24796 - £25106 Actual Salary £17962 - £18187 or C FTE £25185 - £26244 Actual Salary £18244 - £19011 Depending on experience.
The successful candidate will be motivated, able to reflect on own practice, professional and committed to the children of St Columba. Knowledge and experience of working with children is desirable but full training will be given for the right candidate.

It is desirable, but not essential (as training can be provided), that the Learning Support Assistant will:
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day, adapting approaches to meet changing needs
- Support communication using a total communication approach (speech, PECS, Makaton, visuals)
- Deliver structured play,interactionand learning activities in low-stimulation environmentswhenrequired
- Support emotional regulation, including use of sensory strategies
- Maintain constant supervision to ensure safety
- Work closely with teaching staff, SENCo, parents and external professionals
- Show a willingness to develop skills through training and professional development.
- Have astrongunderstanding of safeguarding and the importance of confidentiality.
- Be reliable, organised and able to use initiative when appropriate.
Duties
- Support and encourage children’s learning and development under the guidance of the Class Teacher.
- Promote and reinforce positive behaviour in line with school expectations.
- Follow guidance and programmes provided by external agencies to supportthepupils’ individual needs, for example Physiotherapy and OT programmes.
- Encourage engagement in learning to help improve outcomes
- Build positive, nurturing relationships to help overcome barriers to learning.
- Work with pupils during interventions or boosters, on a one-to-one basis and in small groups to deepen understanding and raise attainment.
- Deliver learning interventions under the guidance of the SENDCo and Class Teacher.
- Support toileting and personal care, promoting dignity and independence and in line with policies.
- Alwaysmaintainprofessionalism and confidentiality.
- Carry out any other duties reasonably allocated within the remit of the role.
