Learning Support Assistant - Ready to Launch Your Teaching Career?
Are you a newly qualified teacher looking to build a strong foundation before your ECT year? Or perhaps you're considering a career in teaching and want invaluable classroom experience first? This 30 hrs a week, term time Learning Support Assistant (LSA) role at Banister Primary School could be the perfect stepping stone for you!
About the Role: Your Chance to Make an Impact
We're looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic LSA to join our Key Stage 2 team for a one-year fixed term, starting in September 2025. This is an incredible opportunity to embed your teaching practice in a supportive primary school environment. You'll gain hands-on experience working directly with children, understanding their diverse needs, and seeing how a thriving classroom operates from the inside.
At Banister Primary School, we pride ourselves on our diverse community and our commitment to an enriched curriculum. Our values of Belief, Pride, and Success guide us in creating an inclusive environment where every child can flourish. As an LSA, you'll be at the heart of this, helping to ensure every child reaches their full potential.
What You'll Be Doing: Developing Key Teaching Skills
This role isn't just about assisting; it's about actively participating in the learning journey. You'll have the chance to:
- Support the class teacher in delivering high-quality education. This means seeing effective teaching strategies in action and learning how to apply them.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support, adapting learning activities to meet individual needs. This is crucial for developing your differentiation skills and understanding how to cater to different learning styles.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment, encouraging engagement and participation. This hands-on experience will be invaluable for your classroom management and relationship-building skills.
- Help with planning and preparing learning resources, giving you insight into the curriculum and lesson design.
- Monitor and track children's progress, providing feedback to the class teacher. This will sharpen your assessment skills and help you understand how to tailor support.
- Support children with additional needs, including those with SEND and EAL. This experience is vital for any future teacher, equipping you with the empathy and practical strategies needed to support every learner.
- Build strong relationships with children, parents, and staff, essential for creating a supportive learning community.
Who We're Looking For: Your Journey Starts Here
We're seeking candidates with relevant qualifications and experience working with children in a primary school setting, especially in Key Stage 2. Most importantly, we're looking for individuals with a strong understanding of child development, excellent communication skills, and a genuine commitment to inclusivity and diversity.
This is your chance to gain invaluable practical experience before committing to teacher training or to solidify your understanding of classroom dynamics before your ECT year.
