Learning Support Assistant or Higher Level Teaching Assistant Required
St. Bede’s is a thriving, successful, popular and friendly Catholic School in Basingstoke with delightful children, a dynamic staff and supportive parents and governors.
From September 2026, we are seeking to appoint a full-time Learning Support Assistant (LSA). There may be the opportunity for this role to be as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) for the right candidate.
The successful candidate will support children at our school during the school day, working with individuals on a 1:1 basis or with groups of children, all of whom have varied levels of support needs, including those with SEN that are more complex. The HLTA role will also include whole class responsibility to cover a teacher’s absence, across all year groups. Further details are available on request.
The hours are from 8.45am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday, Term Time only.
The successful candidate will:
- Have previous successful experience of working with children
- Be able to work as part of a team with a positive, ‘can do’ attitude
- Have excellent communication skills, relating well to children, colleagues and parents
- Have a calm, positive and kind approach
- Be adaptable to ever changing situations and
- Be able to work independently and with initiative
- Be resilient, flexible, organised and resourceful
- Be supportive of the Catholic ethos of the school
- Have a clear understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding procedures
- Be comfortable in supporting young children with personal care and hygiene
- Is committed to the inclusion of all children in a mainstream setting
If interested in the role as an HLTA, the successful candidate will also:
- Hold an NVQ3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification, or have relevant experience as a Learning Support Assistant.
Annual salary for LSA : Grade C, Step 1-5 : £25,186 - £26,244 pro rata. Actual salary £16,421 - £17,111
Annual salary for HLTA: Grade D, Step 1-5 : £27,780 - £30,564 pro rata. Actual salary £18/,118 - £19,928
