Learning Support Assistant (Working 1:1 with children with EHCP/SEND)

This role will involve supporting individual children (with EHCPs/SEN adjustments) in our Early Years and Key Stage 1 (Year R to Year 2) classes and also supporting work in the classroom.

Fixed term contract until July 2026 initially with the possible potential of extension. Working hours are Monday - Friday (8:40am - 3:20pm) - 30.8 hours per week, 39 weeks per years (term-time only + 5 x INSET days per academic year). Grade B post: FTE range £24,796 - £25,128, actual pro-rated pay range: £17,655.36 - £17,891.76 (2025 Support Staff pay award applied). 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, passionate and hard-working person to join our dedicated team. The successful applicant will be fully focused on and committed to the welfare, learning and growth of our children. They will have excellent interpersonal skills, will be approachable, calm and understanding and have high levels of integrity. They will also be well organised and systematic, yet adaptable and flexible. This is an opportunity for applicants who are keen to develop their experience and skills in working with children with SEND in a school setting. Ongoing professional development will be provided within a supportive and nurturing team. 

The main duties of the role include:

  • Working with individual or groups of children to assist in ensuring pupils are kept on task and complete activities set by teachers;
  • Dealing with behavioural and special needs issues in conjunction with the class teacher and SENCO
  • Helping to implement lesson plans
  • Assisting the teacher with testing and assessment, reviewing progress of pupils against learning programmes
  • Detecting signs of behavioural issues and working with outside agencies
  • Readiness to undertake personal/intimate medical work for children with special needs
  • Playtime supervision, including lunch assistance for 30 minutes each day.
