Job Introduction
We are seeking to appoint a part-time Library Assistant to enable our lovely library to be open to our children at lunchtimes. Our library is at the heart of our school and we are very proud of the excellent range of books that the children can choose from. The key aspects of this role will be to
- Help keep our library tidy and well organised, including reshelving books daily.
- Enable the library space to be open at lunchtimes, which will include supervising children who have chosen to come and read a book during this time.
- Support our Reading Subject Leader to continue to promote reading for pleasure, including displaying new book titles etc for the children to see.
- Liaise with Hampshire’s School Library Service to support all aspects of reading at our school.

Ideally, we would like to appoint someone who can work between 12-1pm Monday to Friday but exact days and times could be discussed at interview. Although the post is advertised as 5 hours, this will be kept under review and some additional hours may be paid for key tasks such as a Library Book Exchange session.This post has been advertised on a Fixed Term contract for this school year (until 31st August 2026) initially while we continue to review the post. However, we really value our Library and all that it offers the children and so are hopeful that this post can be maintained in the future.
