Job Introduction
Peter Symonds is a vibrant sixth form college in Winchester which has been rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in every respect. We have a large team of committed and talented staff who are at the heart of the success of the College.
Our Personnel (HR) and Payroll team of 6 runs an inhouse payroll and looks after the full lifecycle of HR, from advertising of vacancies through to staff leaving our employment. We have several hundred staff and work hard to provide them with a professional and personal service. The main duties involve organising staff recruitment, including welcoming candidates at interview. You also have an important role in responding to general HR queries from staff who call into the office, phone or email, passing them on where necessary.
You will possess good IT skills and administrative experience. Experience in a related field including using an online HR or payroll system, a CIPD qualification and a real interest in working in this field would be beneficial but are not essential. More important is the ability to organise your work despite interruptions along with a friendly and helpful manner that will put candidates at their ease. The hours are 37 per week, and you will be working 41 weeks a year which is term time, enrolment week which is the end of August plus 2 additional weeks. The times will be Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5 pm (1-hour lunch and a 4.30pm finish on Fridays), However we are open to discuss flexible working with the successful candidate.
Our staff are at the heart of what we do at the College, we are proudly anti-racist and our motto is ‘Counting in ones’ which applies to staff as well as the students. We offer special leave for various special occasions, support from the Hub, staff-run groups, staff choir, Monday night football, regular staff forums, an inclusive, supportive and kind culture, no expectations to answer emails out of hours (with an automated message to alert the sender), lunch provided at all lunchtime meetings, ‘5 days of Christmas’ treats, end of term meals and activities and bike and computer loans to name but a few of our initiatives.
Safer Recruitment
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
