Job/Person Summary
Freemantle CE Community Academy is a two-form entry primary and maintained nursery, catering for pupils from 3 to 11 years. We are looking for an experienced teacher or SENDCo with a passion for supporting pupils with special educational needs to join our friendly and supportive team.
Working closely with the leadership team and in partnership with the EYFS SENDCo, you'll use your leadership skills to lead SEND provision across the academy and provide support to the teaching team.
The successful candidate will be:
- a qualified teacher with experience of working with children with special education needs
- ideally qualified or prepared to work towards the SENDCo qualification
- an effective team player with excellent communication skills
- someone who is able to use their own initiative and lead a small team effectively
- able to build strong relationships with pupils, staff and parents
- a warm and caring individual who truly puts our children first
Key duties:
- Help to develop and oversee the implementation of the school's SEND strategy and policy.
- Carry out assessments of pupils with SEND to identify needs and monitor progress - including observations in the classroom and meeting with teachers and parents.
- Work with classroom teachers, the school leadership team, parents and relevant external agencies to develop, implement and monitor individual support/learning plans.
- Provide regular updates on pupil progress through written reports and meetings with parents.
- Make referrals and liaise with professionals outside of the school - this could include psychologists, health and social care providers, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists.
- Provide advice, guidance and training to classroom teachers on supporting pupils with SEND.
- Support teachers to develop schemes of work and learning programmes for pupils with SEND.
- Support teachers to develop and implement effective teaching and behaviour management approaches in the classroom.
- Be instrumental in writing EHCP’s for children with complex SEND needs.
- Provide supervision for staff where required.
- Advise on the school budget and resources for SEND provision.
