Job Introduction
Make a real difference to children’s learning as a School Librarian at our welcoming Federation of Schools. Our current librarian has been instrumental in transforming our Infant and Junior library spaces into vibrant, current and informative places where our children love to be.
We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic librarian to join our team. They will liaise closely with our English Leader on signposting texts and ensuring a wide range of genres and themes support the education of our children and our increasingly diverse community.
World Book Day, Booknics and clubs are offered as enrichment to our curriculum and are always well supported.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who would like to build on the current success of the library, understand how transformative good reading practices can be and would like to bring new ideas to the role.
What you’ll do
- Create a welcoming, inclusive space and support children of all ages to engage with the full range of facilities our library has to offer
- Lead library sessions and promote reading initiatives like the Summer Reading Challenge
- Liaise with the School Library Service and other schools to signpost and promote best practice across Alver Valley
- Upkeep the systems and practices to ensure books are logged, stock reviewed and signed out/returned accurately
- Promote the benefits of the library through opening the facility to children and parents through World Book Day activities etc
- Train our school librarians to build skills and develop capacity, so they can advocate the value of reading and libraries
What we’re looking for
- Experience in the role is desirable or a clear understanding of how libraries add value to the lives of children
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt to different people and situations
- Strong digital skills, with confidence to use and learn new systems
- Comfortable using social media to engage with our families and raise awareness of what the libraries have to offer, or open to learning with support and training provided
- Enjoy reading and books and are confident to share this with children and families
- Have up to date knowledge of great texts to share with children or willing to research
