School Library Service Assistant HCC620506

Job Introduction

The School Library Service provides resources and support to schools in Hampshire and surrounding counties on all matters relating to libraries and reading for pleasure. The service provides books to schools via a van delivery service or by schools visiting one of the four centres. We also offer advice to staff on a range of topics relating to books and libraries. The Calmore centre serves approximately 100 schools in the west of the county.

Based at our centre in Calmore (Totton), you will be providing administrative support to the service. Candidates should have excellent interpersonal skills as well as an ability to deal with a variety of customers both in person, via email and on the phone. This role also includes selecting, preparing and delivering resources to schools using a small van.

You will need to be an organised and motivated individual who is able to work alone as well as part of a team. The centre serves approximately 100 schools and requires the postholder to be organised in their daily tasks. There is an element of manual handling in this post.

You will need to have an interest in children’s literature and education. Experience in a library or school setting would be an advantage. A full driving licence is essential to undertake deliveries in the van around Hampshire and neighbouring authorities once or twice a week. Access to your own vehicle is also essential for occasional journeys.

The post is for 27.5 hours per week term time only. Working pattern to be negotiated with the right candidate.
