Job Introduction

Sparsholt Primary School is a successful village school set in a beautiful rural location just outside of Winchester. The children here are wonderful, parents are supportive and the staff are experienced, creative and proactive. In our SIAMs inspection (April 2023) the school was described as “a truly inspiring place to learn and work". Rated "Outstanding" by OFSTED (Nov 2023) in Personal Development and Behaviour & Attitudes, OFSTED commented that "the school's approach to character development is exceptional. High-quality opportunities deliberately broaden the horizons of pupils" and "behaviour is exemplary".

 

Job/Person Summary 

We are seeking to appoint an excellent, enthusiastic and highly motivated person who can work in close partnership with the Headteacher and other staff to lead key aspects of administration.

Although previous experience is desirable, the successful candidate needs proactivity and a desire to lead the organisation and administration including following key policies and processes within the school. It would be an ideal role for someone interested in working in school administration who would like to gain valuable experience and training in this area. What is essential is that we get the right person – someone who is warm, welcoming, positive, a quick learner, with an eye for detail and fantastic organisational skills.

  • Confident in using a wide range of IT applications e.g. spreadsheets, databases
  • Able to use your initiative and be resourceful
  • Have a good understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding procedures
  • Qualified in Maths and English at GCSE Grade C or above

 

The successful candidate will be expected:

  • To answer the telephone and deal with routine enquiries.
  • To welcome parents and visitors to the school, provide hospitality and show them around if appropriate.
  • Ensure that face to face enquiries from visitors, parents, staff and pupils are dealt with appropriately.
  • To undertake the administrations of school admissions and staff recruitment.
  • To manage and operate cash handling systems.
  • To manage the administration of pupil attendance, trips and going home arrangements.
  • To draft and type correspondence.
  • To support staff with administration and office tasks. 
  • To use their own initiative and also be able to work as a team in a flexible and adaptable way.
  • Have GCSE English and Maths or equivalent
  • To prioritise requests from manager(s) for work to be carried out.
  • To disseminate information to staff.
  • To develop and maintain a system of contacts to enable the provision of information and advice to colleagues/parents/pupils/visitors.
  • To maintain data in the school’s MIS (database).
  • To maintain office records, both computerised and paper.
  • To work cooperatively with other school admin staff towards shared goals.
  • Operation and management of office equipment and supplies.
  • General school filing.
  • Other duties - such other duties as may reasonably be allocated within the purview of the post.
