We are looking to appoint someone who is highly motivated to help provide a safe, clean and engaging environment for our children. We have an attractive, well-established grounds with a large school field and nature area and are looking for a committed person to care for and enhance the space.
The role is for 37.5 hours per week which is flexible between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday. 52 weeks per year with holiday to be taken out of term time. It is to be paid on the support staff pay scale E (£33,178 - £36,369)
We are looking for:
- Someone positive and friendly with a practical, can- do approach and a strong sense of pride in their work
- Someone with good time management who is able to use initiative to solve problems with confidence.
- A commitment to providing a safe, positive environment for children and staff
- Good literacy, numeracy, IT, and practical maintenance skills. The role involves using various computer-based systems (training will be given)
- Experience in facilities management, record keeping and knowledge of statutory Health and Safety procedures including compliance
- Flexibility and good interpersonal skills, able to lead a team and relate well to pupils, staff, visitors and contractors
- Someone who is happy to embrace school life, getting involved with all that has to offer including events and activities, being flexible when required to do so
- Someone who enjoys being busy with varied, rewarding work where no two days are the same!
- Whilst you do not need to have school-based experience, we would be looking for skills from other professions that would be transferable to this role.
Key responsibilities:
- Ensure the school is compliant with Health and Safety regulations. This includes being responsible for COSHH, Legionella and Asbestos Management, Working at Height and conducting risk assessments. Full training provided.
- Conducting site walks daily, ensuring the environment is safe, well presented and organise any reactive maintenance required.
- Pre-empting issues and putting preventative measures in place.
- Create and deliver an annual maintenance plan for improvements to the buildings and grounds, working in partnership with the Headteacher and Admin Manager
- Completing repairs and maintenance which could include plumbing, carpentry, painting and decorating.
- Working independently, using initiative to prioritise tasks as well as working as part of the wider school team
- Organising and managing external contractors, ensuring compliance and carrying out risk assessments
- Leading and supporting the cleaning team reinforcing high standards and ensuring training is in place and up to date.
- Managing budgets and ordering for caretaking and cleaning supplies.
- Reporting regularly to the Governing Body on site, safety and premises matters.
- Acting as a keyholder for the school, responsible for site security and access, including opening/closing the premises and responding to out-of-hours emergencies as needed.
- Work with the Admin Manager and Headteacher on site priorities in line with the School Improvement Plan
- Engage with community users ensuring booked spaces are ready and available for use
- Have an understanding of safeguarding.
