Job Introduction
The post will be for 24 hours a week to join our team of Special Needs Assistants – 4 days a week – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. The post will be primarily based in Year R, supporting a pupil with an Education Health Care Plan for Physical Needs. Previous experience of working with children with a physical disability would be an advantage.
Role profile 02131 Grade C dependent on experience and qualifications.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Maintain a high level of support for the identified physical and learning needs.
- Adopt a total communication approach to support the development of speech, language and communication skills
- Provide a high level of support to enable access to the planned curriculum and learning environment
- Help the children to develop social skills and appropriate interactions with their peers.
- Actively engage in play – modelling, narrating and extending play skills
- Promote independence and celebrate all successes
- Work closely with and be accountable to the class teacher, who will give guidance on the nature and extent of the support and supervision.
- Develop a good relationship with the other children in the class by encouraging and motivating.
- Follow all school policies.
- Treat all school matters as confidential.
- Plan and review regularly with the class teacher/SENCO
- Meet regularly with the SEN co-ordinator, contribute to Personal Learning Plans /Annual Reviews.
- Liaise with a range of professionals external to the school.
- Deliver physiotherapy and speech therapy programmes (as advised by the relevant therapist)
- Provide personal care assistance
- Evaluate resources and equipment.
- Attend appropriate Inset/training opportunities
Person Specification:
- Have a professional approach to all aspects of school life
- Have excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Have appropriate levels of literacy and numeracy (GCSE grade C or above desirable)
- Have basic ability in computing.
- Be able to modify NC resources to support Personalised Learning Plans
- Have experience of computing resources to support SEN children
- Have extensive experience of parent liaison
- Be able to work effectively as part of a successful team and show initiative.
- Have experience of working with primary aged children with a range of identified needs, including Early Years Foundation Stage.
- Have a caring, cheerful and conscientious disposition.
