Sport & Exercise Lead - Cody Oaks

Job Introduction

The Head teacher is seeking to recruit an experienced and talented individual with QTS/QTLS to work as part of the Middle Leadership Team and potentially extended SLT to help deliver an outstanding and inclusive education for children with SEMH needs and associated difficulties. Cody Oaks is an impressive addition to an already well-resourced school site, and provides a unique opportunity in the north of the county. 

 Working as a whole school lead, you will develop and implement our KS4 Sport and Exercise pathways, as well and review and develop our KS2 and 3 curriculum offer in this area.  Our aim is for Sport and Exercise to become our flagship area of the curriculum which allows students to engage, work hard and achieve outcomes allowing them to progress once they finish their time with us at Cody Oaks.  You will demonstrate effective implementation and monitoring skills to identify impact of intervention and adapt accordingly to meet the changing needs of the learners at Cody Oaks.  You will provide a safe and inclusive environment that supports learning, promotes respect, honesty, communication and team work.  You will have a strong presence around the building throughout the day and support on aspects of the daily operations.

 As part of the development and investment into the area we are currently in the process and planning a new gym and fitness facility for our learners.   The appointed member of staff will help guide and shape this exciting addition to the Cody Oaks provision.

 Who we are:

Samuel Cody School is a school for children with Moderate Learning Difficulties and Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties.   Students with SEMH are taught at Cody Oaks, is a state of the art purpose built unit.   At Cody Oaks we are now moving into our fourth year and now have some exciting opportunities within our teaching team to support the additional cohort joining us in September 2025.  We pride ourselves on our therapeutic approach, establishing ‘the Cody Oaks Way’ which has shown to have a significant impact upon our students so far.  We have a strong and energetic team who pull together to achieve what is best for our students. At Cody Oaks, within KS2 and 3, we have adopted a Primary model.  This allows our learners to establish positive attachment and trust, leading to positive engagement and social development.   Learners leave their classrooms for specialist sessions, such as DT, PE and Science.  Our KS4 students are accessing a diverse and exciting curriculum which provides them opportunity for post 16.

 We are looking for an enthusiastic teacher and leader who:

  • Has experience and knowledge of curriculum implementation, particularly within KS4
  • Can demonstrate leadership and management of staff to achieve appropriate outcomes for learners.
  • A calm, inclusive, flexible, enthusiastic and creative approach towards learning
  • A commitment to working with young people who exhibit challenging behaviours with associated trauma and attachment difficulties
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative and ability to demonstrate impact from strategies they have implemented
  • Commitment to work with parents and other professionals
  • An ability to role model consistent high levels of teaching which support development of both the academic and SEMH needs of the child
  • To contribute to both planning and delivery of curriculum within both KS3 and KS4
  • An ability to create and lead initiatives to support student outcomes and comprehensively demonstrate impact
