Our humanities department is looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and dedicated Teacher of RS. We are looking for a person with a love of education to join the team to encourage all pupils to make progress in this subject no matter their ability. There are currently three highly committed teachers within RS who strive for excellence, employing a range of traditional and progressive methodology and contributing to the academic and pastoral life of the school. Teachers at Cove strive for academic excellence in all we do in an environment that cares and supports pupils.

The RS department works closely with the Humanities Departments in the school. The departments are well-resourced and achieve good outcomes. RS is compulsory for all pupils at GCSE because Cove School values RS so highly and understands that pupils with a comprehensive understanding of RS make for better citizens. The Humanities Departments are vibrant departments made up of individuals who have a real love for their subject and want to help pupils succeed. There is an excellent range of extra-curricular trips for pupils including trips to Poland, Berlin, London as well as inhouse sessions from visiting speakers to help with their GCSE knowledge and cultural capital. The RS department works closely with Hampshire SACRE as the Curriculum Leader of RS is a SACRE member, and there is a good liaison with the local primary schools.
We are looking to appoint a colleague who will:
- Engage, enthuse, motivate and challenge pupils in order for them to excel academically
- Have relentlessly high expectations of themselves and pupils
- Have excellent subject knowledge
- Be willing to teach across the full age range of pupils; year 7 to year 11
- Enhance the quality of teaching and learning in the Department and wider school through sharing resources and good practice, lesson observation, collaborative teaching, mentoring and active participation in continuing professional studies programme
- Teach a standard timetable allocation
- Make a positive contribution to the efficient running of the Department, including, setting and marking examinations, attending departmental meetings and undertaking administrative and other tasks as delegated by the Curriculum Leader
- Actively safeguard and promote the welfare of children
- Support the schools’ aims and objectives for teaching and learning
- Adhere to and promote all school policies and procedure
Person Specification:
- Good level degree in a directly related subject (desirable)
- Thorough knowledge of the (13-16) subject Curriculum (GCSE)
- Recognised teaching qualification, such as a PGCE, or equivalent experience
- Awareness of Safeguarding requirements and good practice
- Good level of IT literacy
- Be capable of delivering inspirational and informative lessons to the full age and ability range of pupils at the school
- Be able to demonstrate a positive and authoritative rapport with pupils
- Excellent and effective classroom management skills
- Have excellent communication skills to enable effective dialogue with pupils, parents, staff and visitors
- Be organised and self-motivated, with a proven record for meeting targets and deadlines
