Job Introduction
At Medstead CofE Primary School, we are committed to meeting the needs of all our pupils and developing their potential in our resource provision for hearing impaired pupils. We are looking for a dynamic, passionate and committed Teacher of the Deaf with specialist skills and recent experience in teaching children with hearing impairment in a primary school, to further develop our provision.
We value our Hearing Impaired Unit as having a positive impact across the school. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate their commitment to the integration of HI pupils, Communicator staff and practice between the school and the Hearing Impaired Unit.
Medstead Primary School is seeking to employ a Teacher of the Deaf to work alongside our current TOD to cater for 14 HI children as part of our 176 place primary school setting, working with our Deaf Instructors and Communicator Support Worker Team.
You will be able to demonstrate a passion for learning and a commitment to achieving high outcomes for hearing impaired children in collaboration with mainstream colleagues. You should have recent experience of supporting staff to plan and develop effective inclusion, as well as the independence of children with a hearing impairment.
Candidates should have qualified teacher status plus a mandatory qualification in hearing impairment which will include a qualification in sign language (BSL level 2 or higher/equivalent), or be a qualified Teacher of the Deaf. Applicants will lead on writing EHCPs and learning for our pupils. The abilities to lead a team of Communicators and foster positive links with parents are vital to the role. Key to the role is a desire to value children and maximise their potential. You will be confident in leading multiagency work and in particular speech and language programmes.
A willingness to learn new skills and a positive ‘can do’ attitude is vital. You will need to have a flexible approach to meeting individual children’s needs and be willing to adopt alternative strategies to ensure positive outcomes for all our children.
Interviews will involve teaching a small group of deaf children and may incorporate some of their peers.
