Job Introduction
The Role
Under new leadership and embarking on an exciting journey of transformation, Sherborne St John C of E Primary is looking for a dedicated and inspiring 1-1 Learning Support Partner to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with a pupil who is autistic and has a Global Development Delay (GDD). Your primary goal will be to create a safe, engaging, and structured environment that allows this child to access the curriculum at their own pace, develop their communication skills, and build confidence in their first year of primary school.
We are a progressive, inclusive, and welcoming small school that believes in high standards- not just for our pupils, but for the bespoke support we provide them. We are building a setting that blends our traditional village heart with a forward-thinking, modern approach to inclusion.
Why this role?
If you are an educator who understands that one-size-fits-all doesn't work, and you thrive on finding the unique "key" to a child’s success, we want to hear from you. We are looking for someone who:
- Sees the potential behind every challenge.
- Values the power of play-based intervention and sensory-informed support.
- Wants to be a pivotal part of a school
Join us in a role where your individual focus will help shape the future of a child- and our school- on the move.
We are looking for somebody who finds joy in the "small wins" and understands that progress for an autistic child with GDD, like all children, is a unique journey.
Essential Criteria:
- Previous experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEND), specifically autism.
- A firm understanding of Global Development Delay and how it impacts early learning.
- Exceptional patience and the ability to remain calm and regulated under pressure.
- A proactive "can-do" attitude with a focus on inclusive practice.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience in an Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) setting.
- Training in sensory processing, de-escalation techniques, or specific communication aids.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3 in Childcare or Supporting Teaching and Learning).
- Understanding of specific autism interventions such as Attention Autism and the TEACCH approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Tailored Support: Implement bespoke learning activities that cater to the child’s specific developmental stage and sensory needs.
- Communication: Utilise strategies such as PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), Now-and-Next boards, or Makaton to support speech and language goals.
- Social Integration: Model positive social interactions and help the pupil navigate the busy environment of a mainstream Reception classroom.
- Collaboration: Work alongside the Class Teacher, SENDCo, and external professionals (e.g., Speech and Language Therapists) to follow and update the child’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
- Personal Care: Provide assistance with personal care and transitions throughout the school day as required
Why Join Us?
- A supportive and inclusive staff team who are passionate about SEND.
- Access to ongoing professional development and specialised training.
- The opportunity to make a profound, lasting impact on a child’s educational foundation.
