Assistant Head Teacher Introduction – St. Matthew’s CE Primary

Start Date: September 2026

We are looking for an exceptional Assistant Head to join our friendly and supportive leadership team. You will be an inspirational teacher (ideally end of a key stage expert) and will lead and drive the English Curriculum forward, supporting staff development and ensuring high standards are evident across the curriculum.

We are proud of our nurturing ethos and our absolute dedication to providing the best support for each individual child within our vibrant school community. We are a warm and friendly primary school supported well by a team of committed Governors and enthusiastic PTFA. St. Matthew’s Church is only a short walk away which we visit regularly and have weekly collective worships lead by our lovely vicar in school. We are fortunate to be surrounded by beautiful woodlands which we use for Forest School sessions and outdoor learning. 

This role is a fantastic opportunity to work in partnership with the Head teacher and SEN Assistant Head teacher to influence our culture, ethos, and child experience- ensuring every child thrives in a positive, inclusive, and high-achieving environment. We need a leader who truly understands our school - someone who can inspire, motivate, and drive lasting change.

Key responsibilities:

Teaching and learning

Foster a culture of continuous, personal, improvement in teaching practices, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning across the school 

Staff development

Provide professional development opportunities and support for teachers to enhance their pedagogical knowledge. Support ECT’s and other less experienced staff.

Curriculum development

Contribute towards designing, implementing and evaluating a broad and balanced and inclusive curriculum that meets the needs of all pupils.

Leadership

Support the head teacher and another senior leader to drive the school's vision and school improvement goals. Motivate and inspire children, staff and parents with a strong sense of teamwork and lead by example, influencing decision-making and shaping policies.

This is a predominantly class based position with leadership time.
