Job/Person Summary 

Woodcroft Primary School has a team of dedicated staff that work above and beyond for the children and families within the local area. A significant proportion of our pupils come from families that have had challenging circumstances occur. Ensuring our children are safeguarded is essential. Attendance in school is a key aspect of safeguarding pupils and this role will have a significant impact on both of these vital areas. We are seeking an experienced individual who can work closely with families to improve children’s attendance, but also liaise with external agencies when safeguarding concerns arise. Ideally the successful applicant will have experience in one or both of these areas and will be able to communicate effectively with parents, outside agencies and colleagues. Previous Designated Safeguarding Lead or assistant lead experience would be a significant advantage.

 What the role involves:

Safeguarding

  • Update safeguarding drive in regards to: 
    • Children In need / Child protection plans
    • Children receiving support from Early help Hub
    • Looked after children
  • Update social workers’ details
  • Attend Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) meetings and follow up any outstanding cases 
  • Keep DSL files up to date
  • Liaise with social workers about families
  • Attend Early Help Hub (EHH) meetings for families & lead professionals
  • As directed by EHH, act as lead professional
  • Attend Child protection and Child in need meetings for families
  • Log Police National Network and Operation Encompass on our safeguarding system (CPOMS)
  • Contact Children’s Services for updates on families
  • Gather information from teachers for Section 17/47 reports
  • Send information to social workers and Multi agency Safeguarding hub (MASH) team
  • Keep the safeguarding files up to date
  • Complete interagency referrals when concerns arise
  • Meet with families where required

Attendance

  • First day phone calls – update social workers re: key families (send attendance info)
  • Home visits if needed
  • Referrals to outside agencies for support (Southern Domestic Abuse Services (SDASDAS) including signposting
  • Work with Housing
  • Meet weekly with part time attendance officer regarding attendance groups and relevant communication with parents
  • Work with Legal Intervention Team – attend meetings, send any correspondence
  • Complete Leave of absence paperwork ensuring all documents are sent to parents; and all leave of Absence is recorded on database
  • Manage fines for Leave of absence alongside Senior administrator

Additional Duties

  • Set up for Family Links Course
  • Liaise with social workers running the course regarding families
  • Talk to parents, offer support/advice
  • Make referrals if needed
  • Foodbank referrals
  • Reminder phone calls to parents to attend meetings
  • Inform parents of school nurse visits and send relevant paperwork to school nurse prior to visit

Transfer Documents

  • Prepare paperwork for Year 6 leavers to secondary school
  • Ensure receipts for transfer documents are filed, and that all lead on schools complete and return relevant documentation
  • Update transfer document
  • Chase any transfer receipt documents not returned
  • Handle any other school transfer documents when a child moves school
