Caretaker - Afternoons only - Hamble Primary School

Job Introduction

We are looking for an afternoon Caretaker who is positive, reliable and practical to join our dedicated support team to keep our site tidy, safe and secure.  We have another Caretaker who works morning hours. 

Caretaker’s play a vital role in the smooth running of our school ensuring that the security and general appearance of the building and grounds are maintained to a high standard and those systems operate efficiently and safely.

The role will amongst other items will involve:

*Being responsible for site security including the opening and closing of the school gates, and could include some outside of normal hours for school events as required.    

*Where necessary, organising emergency repairs to secure the building.

*Acting as keyholder for the school and attending emergency call outs where necessary

*Requisitioning caretaking supplies and checking/recording their delivery into school

*Regular checking and record keeping to meet legislative health and safety requirements e.g. COSHH and legionella

*Alongside the School Business Manager, designing and managing a programme of planned and preventative maintenance undertaking minor repairs, maintenance and decoration

*Checking and clearing outside drains and gullies

*Clearing snow, ice and leaves (or as seasonally required) from paths and walkways as necessary

*Undertaking any necessary action in the event of bad weather or emergency, e.g. snow/frost clearing in order to permit safe access and exit to the school site and buildings for staff, pupils and visitors.

*Within levels of competency, undertaking repairs or maintenance tasks to ensure that the school building and site are safe and attractive environments

 We are looking for people who will:

 * Be reliable and flexible

* Be able to work independently, using their own initiative, including prioritising workloads and contributing to the needs of the children and the whole school team

*Be able to communicate well with adults and children, in both oral and written form

*Have good basic plumbing, painting/decorating and carpentry skills

*Understand the importance of hygiene and cleanliness

*Be IT competent including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook email

*Be willing to attend training

*Be able to act on their own initiative 

*Have an understanding of safeguarding and how to report any concerns
