Hours – 10 hours per week, 3:30pm – 5:30pm Mon-Fri, term time + 1 week
Contract – Permanent

Job Purpose
To provide a high standard of cleaning and hygiene throughout the school premises, ensuring a safe, clean, and pleasant environment for pupils, staff, visitors, and the wider school community.
Key Responsibilities
Cleaning Duties
- Clean classrooms, offices, corridors, toilets, halls, and other designated areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors as required.
- Dust and wipe furniture, fixtures, fittings, and equipment.
- Empty bins and dispose of waste appropriately.
- Replenish consumables such as soap, toilet paper, and paper towels.
- Clean and sanitise toilets and washroom facilities.
- Clean internal glass, doors, and other surfaces as required.
- Report any maintenance issues, damages, or health and safety concerns to the appropriate person.
Health and Safety
- Follow all school health and safety procedures.
- Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely in accordance with training and COSHH regulations.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
- Ensure cleaning equipment is stored safely and securely.
- Help maintain a safe environment by identifying and reporting hazards promptly.
Security and Safeguarding
- Maintain the confidentiality of information encountered during work.
- Follow school safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times.
- Secure areas of the school as instructed.
General Duties
- Attend training sessions and staff meetings as required.
- Work flexibly to support school events, deep cleans, or emergency cleaning requirements.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the grade and responsibilities of the post.
Person Specification
Experience (desirable)
- Previous experience of cleaning in a commercial, educational, healthcare, or similar environment.
- Experience of using cleaning equipment and materials safely.
- Experience of using specialist cleaning equipment (e.g., floor scrubbers or polishers).
Knowledge
- Understanding of basic cleaning methods and hygiene standards.
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements relevant to cleaning duties.
- Understanding of the importance of safeguarding children in a school environment.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
- Ability to follow instructions and cleaning schedules.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards.
