Job Introduction
The Federation of Heathfield School and St Francis School is seeking a highly organised, proactive, and confidential Clerk to the Governing Board to support our committed governors in delivering strong governance across both schools.
About the Role
The Clerk to the Governors plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the Federated Governing Board. This includes providing professional clerking support, maintaining accurate records, and offering guidance to governors on statutory and procedural matters.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing agendas in consultation with the Chair and Executive Headteacher
- Attending and minuting governing board and committee meetings (evenings required)
- Providing advice on governance legislation, policy, and procedure
- Managing governor documentation, correspondence, and membership records
- Supporting the annual governance cycle, including policy schedules and statutory returns
- Ensuring confidentiality, accuracy, and professionalism at all times
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has excellent organisational and communication skills
- Can work independently and manage deadlines
- Is confident using IT systems, including email, Word, and document management
- Can interpret and summarise information clearly
- Understands (or is willing to learn about) school governance and statutory requirements
Previous experience in clerking, governance, or administrative roles is desirable but not essential, as training can be provided for the right candidate.
