Cover Supervisor - Brookfield Community School

Job Introduction

Cover Supervisor

Required as soon as possible

Term Time Only: 31.25 hours per week

Grade D – £20,069 actual salary

Hours of work 8.15am – 3.15pm (Monday to Friday, we are happy to discuss different working patterns to suit the right candidate)

An ideal opportunity for aspiring teachers or career changers

Are you someone who enjoys working with young people and wants a job that genuinely makes a difference each day?
Are you considering teaching in the future — or simply looking for a more rewarding alternative to a desk-based role?

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and reliable Cover Supervisor to join our friendly and supportive secondary school team.

Why this role could be right for you

This role is particularly well suited to:

  • Graduates or career changers exploring teaching as a future pathway
  • Individuals currently feeling bored or unfulfilled in their role and looking for meaningful work
  • Those who enjoy working with young people and being part of a vibrant community

Many Cover Supervisors use this role as a stepping stone into teacher training, and we actively support colleagues with applications, references and experience-building opportunities.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supervising whole classes during teacher absence using prepared lesson materials
  • Supporting students to stay focused, engaged and on task
  • Building positive relationships with students and staff
  • Being a visible, valued part of the wider school community

Training and support

You will not be expected to “sink or swim”.

We offer:

  • A structured induction programme in your first weeks
  • Ongoing training in classroom management and behaviour strategies
  • Opportunities to observe teaching and attend teaching and learning sessions
  • Support from experienced staff and senior leaders

Previous experience working with young people is desirable but not required — we are far more interested in your attitude, reliability and willingness to learn.

What we’re looking for

  • A positive, calm and confident approach
  • An interest in young people and education
  • Good communication skills and professionalism
  • A desire to develop and grow in the role

In return, we offer a welcoming team, excellent support, and a role where no two days are the same — and where you can see the impact of your work every day.

If you would like to arrange a tour of the school or discuss the role in more detail, please contact the Employee Support Team on employeesupport@brookfield.hants.sch.uk.
