Job/Person Summary

We are looking to appoint a dedicated, enthusiastic Emotional Literacy Support Assistant to join our existing Pastoral Team across the Federation. The suitable candidate will be passionate about providing effective pastoral and emotional support to enable children to grow and develop socially and emotionally.  This position will also include one hour per day as Lead Lunchtime Supervisor, where you will be responsible for organising and managing the team to always ensure effective supervision of pupils. As well as the post holder acting as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, with time provided to enable this role to be fulfilled alongside other DSLs.  


The post holder will be supported by our existing team and Federation Inclusion Lead to provide support to pupils both within classrooms and through effective interventions in the mornings. In the afternoons, support through ELSA interventions will be timetabled, alongside other interventions where training will be provided as required. 

The successful candidate will: 

  • Have experience of working with groups of children;
  • Have a good standard of English and mathematics, being able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Be suitably qualified for the post of ELSA or willingness to undertake training;
  • Have experience with some behaviour management techniques;
  • Have a passion and motivation for improving children’s social and emotional skills;
  • Have an optimistic attitude and be flexible to the demands of the job;
  • Demonstrate versatility, tact, commitment and the ability to use initiative;
  • Be well organised, a good communicator, great team player and have a good sense of humour;
  • Have high expectations of children's progress and attainment, and understand the need to promote independence;
  • Have an understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding procedures.
