This full-time role will join the student support team in working to develop the school's strategic plans to improve attendance and student support, working in close liaison with the Senior Leadership Team to develop new initiatives to assist vulnerable students currently struggling to access their education.

 Key roles and responsibilities:

Coordinate a programme of support for key vulnerable/EBSA students, creating short-term, targeted and personalised pathways to develop resilience and secure academic progress. Within this, the successful candidate will:

  • Design and deliver a range of outreach support sessions for students, working closely with them and their families, to encourage the effective reintegration into mainstream school.
  • Support with the successful establishment of 'in-house' alternative settings for students, focused on offering a short-term, therapeutic approach.

Oversee the support plans for the students on their caseload, such as:

  • Being a central point of contact for the student and their families for the duration of the support plan.
  • Liaising with colleagues and external agencies to commission an effective programme of support.
  • Effective tracking and monitoring of student progress over time, through appropriate student support plans and use of the Online Progress Tool.
  • Record and monitor Reduced Hours Provisions with the local authority, including ensuring appropriate documentation is in place.
  • Attend relevant internal & external support meetings, such as Attendance Strategy Meetings, TAF/CiN/CP plan meetings, and EPMs.
  • Support an effective transition back to mainstream lessons, working closely with the Heads of Year.
  • Contributing to the compiling of evidence for LIT referrals and EPMs.
  • Analysing a range of data to understand the needs of specific learners.

Supporting the school's transition process by:

  • Working closely with the Head of Transition and Marketing to support students with additional vulnerability or historic low attendance to effectively transition to Brighton Hill in the Autumn term.
  • Liaising with partner junior schools, and prospective parents/students, to understand the needs of students arriving with additional vulnerabilities, providing information for staff in the September INSET.

Develop links with the local community by:

  • Organising community events sharing awareness of key issues and support (for example, invite-only EBSA events for select parents).
  • Working with local external agencies to build positive, lasting working relationships.
  • Where appropriate, work in liaison with other school in the Trust to share best practice.

Undertake any other reasonable tasks as assigned by the Headteacher or Senior Leadership Team.

The successful candidate should have:

  • Experience of supporting students/young people with their attendance and emotional wellbeing.
  • An understanding of the legal attendance framework.
  • Where possible, experience of teaching or providing academic support for students.
  • Excellent communication skills, and an ability to build positive relationships with students /families.
  • A strong understanding of what appropriate safeguarding looks like in schools, and confidence in reporting concerns in the appropriate way.

If you are passionate about education and have the skills and experience required for this role, we would love to hear from you!
