Job Introduction
Fleet Infant School is excited to announce that it has a Resourced Provision, for a maximum of 9 pupils diagnosed with ASD, opening in September 2025. This will be a phased growth from 5, 6, to 9 children by 2027. The pupils will learn within the Resourced Provision and within our mainstream classes. This is an exciting opportunity for our school community.
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant who has had experience of working with children who have ASD and SEN. The successful applicant will work alongside the Resourced Provision Lead Teacher and the SENCo. We believe that every child should be given every opportunity to achieve their potential and make progress in every area of school life.
We are committed to collaborative working to provide positive learning experiences for all our pupils. Applicants must have recent and relevant qualifications. The preferred candidate will also have some or all of the following desirable qualities:
Hold an NVQ3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification or experience
Highly experienced in working with children in an infant school setting
Experience of working with a child or children with additional SEMH needs or SEND
We are looking for someone who has:
- a calm, patient and positive approach with the ability to be evaluative and reflective.
- previous recent experience of working with children with additional needs and knowledge of a range of strategies for managing their behaviour would be an advantage.
- the ability to establish a sympathetic and understanding relationship with an individual child.
- an understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding procedures.
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills with both children and adults.
- the ability to follow directed procedures and also be able to work under their own initiative.
- excellent Maths and English skills.
- a well organised and systematic approach, yet is also adaptable and flexible.
- good sense of humour.
