Newtown CofE Primary School, located in the heart of Gosport is a popular, welcoming and vibrant school, with Christian principles and pupils at it’s heart. The Role of A Governor is:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- Holding leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation, its pupils, and the effective management of staff
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school
- Each individual governor is a member of the governing body and all decisions are a joint responsibility.
- Governors undertake specific roles as well as being a member of the full governing board. Such as safeguarding, H&S and finance.
- Governors usually attend 3-4 meetings per term and pre-arranged school monitoring visits.
- Governors may also be called upon to form a panel for hearings at Newtown, or other local schools, Although rare and training will be provided.
- The school are particularly, but not exclusively, keen to meet with volunteers who regularly worship and will uphold the Christian ethos for foundation governor positions.

With knowledge that you are supporting the school and pupils and the satisfaction of making a contribution to your community; being a governor gives a sense of purpose and achievement whilst offering new skills, training and colleagues.
