Education Outreach Worker

Smannell Field School is situated in Andover and is rated by OFSTED as a good school.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a kind, confident and hard working person to join our Intervention Outreach Service.  Working both on our school site and in Test Valley secondary schools.  The successful candidate will make a significant contribution to the welfare and inclusion of children and young people in mainstream education.


JOB DESCRIPTION

Activities of the Role

The following section is intended to provide examples of the activities of the job; it may vary to take account of changing priorities and is not exhaustive. 

  • To work with small groups of pupils in our school who are engaging with the Intervention Programme
  • To support families and pupils, if necessary, completing domiciliary visits to re-engage with their education
  • To work with individuals and small groups of pupils within Test Valley (linked schools) to promote inclusion
  • To work with individuals and small groups of pupils within Test Valley (linked schools) to minimise the likelihood of a change of provision
  • To work with individuals and small groups of pupils within Test Valley (linked schools) to support transition between schools and the Centre as necessary
  • To liaise with families, other agencies and professionals as necessary
  • To support administrative and other systems
  • To safeguard and protect pupils from harm and engage in processes that do

Qualifications, Skills and Experience – Essential

  • Experience of working with children and their families
  • Knowledge and experience of positive behaviour management
  • An understanding of the needs of parents and how best they might be supported
  • Experience of working within a team to support children and their families
  • Knowledge and experience of working within a framework of confidentiality
  • Experience of working without direct supervision
  • A minimum of GCSE maths and English at either Grade 4 or C

Qualifications, Skills and Experience – Desirable

  • Level 3 or Level 5 Children and Young People’s Workforce Qualification
  • Foundation Degree related to Children and Young People’s Workforce
  • Undergraduate Degree related to Children and Young People’s Workforce
  • Higher Level Teaching Assistant Qualification (HLTA)
  • Experience of multi-agency working
  • Experience of work with children who have a range of additional needs
  • Experience of working with children in either school or residential settings

Corporate and statutory requirements including health and safety, equalities etc.

  • Abide by policies and guidance (statutory and advisory)

Key decision-making areas of the role

  • Appropriate information sharing with colleagues and key stakeholders
  • Casework decisions to be made in consultation with the Outreach and Early Intervention Manager and (through them) with the Headteacher

As part of our pre-employment checks you will be asked to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service disclosure if you are offered the post.  There will also be a pre-employment questionnaire which is confidential and screened by the Occupational Health team.
