Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) / Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA)


Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, 5 days per week

Braishfield Primary School is seeking a warm, caring and empathetic individual to join our friendly and ambitious village school. You will become part of a supportive, hard-working team committed to helping every child thrive.

This role is suitable for an experienced HLTA looking for a new setting, or a Learning Support Assistant ready to develop further, with support to gain relevant qualifications. Experience or interest in ELSA is desirable, and training can be provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with class teachers and the SENDCo 
  • Support pupils within the classroom, including 1:1 and small group work 
  • Deliver interventions and pre-planned learning activities 
  • Provide class cover across the school when required 
  • Support children’s emotional development, building resilience, self-esteem and coping strategies 

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with primary-aged children 
  • Strong relationship-building skills and a nurturing approach 
  • Patience, a sense of humour, and a passion for supporting children’s learning and wellbeing 
  • GCSE Grade C (or equivalent) in English and Maths (essential) 
  • Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) desirable; HLTA status or willingness to work towards it 
  • Good administrative and IT skills 
  • Confidence managing whole classes, small groups and 1:1 support
